Amedspor finished the 2025-2026 season second in the TFF First League with 74 points, earning promotion to the Süper Lig for the first time in its history — and doing so directly, without the play-offs. Now all eyes turn to the new season, kicking off on 14 August 2026.
New head coach: Besnik Hasi
As the club prepares for its first Süper Lig season, it has settled on a manager. On 10 June 2026, Amedspor announced a two-year deal covering the 2026/2027 and 2027/2028 seasons with experienced Albanian coach Besnik Hasi, who had just left Anderlecht. The 54-year-old has managed clubs including Anderlecht, Legia Warsaw, Olympiacos and Mechelen, and led Anderlecht in the UEFA Champions League. Serkan Reçber was appointed as sporting director. Club President Nahit Eren said transfer planning would be carried out together with the new technical team.
A whole new level of competition
The Süper Lig is a very different world from the First League. Amedspor will now share the pitch with Turkey's established and wealthy giants — Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor. The 2025-2026 champions, Galatasaray — who won their fourth title in a row and 26th overall — are by far the strongest side in the league. At this level, every week means a tough test.
The expected challenges
For newly promoted teams, the first season is usually the hardest. Deeper squads, bigger budgets and a more demanding fixture list await Amedspor. It would be reasonable to expect the club's priority to be the league's realistic goal: survival — the fight to avoid relegation. History shows that most promoted sides spend their first season battling to stay up.
The opportunity on the pitch
But there's another side to the coin. With every match it plays in the Süper Lig, Amedspor will gain unprecedented visibility — taking the field in major stadiums, on national broadcasts, in front of millions. Home games in Diyarbakır will bring the league's giants to the city, a historic moment both sportingly and economically.
A season beyond borders
For Amedspor, this season is more than a football calendar. The Kurdish diaspora across Europe will follow the club's Süper Lig journey closely. Every win will be celebrated from Berlin to Stockholm, from San Diego to Diyarbakır. Whatever the result on the pitch, Amedspor's first Süper Lig season is already a historic story.
Note: The sporting expectations in this article are general assessments; definitive outcomes will become clear once the season begins.
